+ Our History

St. James Episcopal School has a long, proud history, founded in 1954 by Carol Goodped, for the preschool children of the Church families. These families were seeking academic excellence for their children, while maintaining the core values of the Episcopal Church and an abiding faith in God.

The school was originally known as the Parish Day School. In 1959, first grade was added. For the next five years, an additional grade was added every year (grades 2 through 6). In 1973, the name was changed to St. James Day School and it operated under this name for twelve years. It was renamed St. James Episcopal School in 1985. Four years later, grades seven and eight were added
and a class of three year olds was added in 1991.

For more than half a century, St. James Episcopal School has built a reputation as a center for discovery, sound learning,
and the pursuit of knowledge.

At St. James, every student has the opportunity to achieve academic excellence in a caring environment that embraces diversity, creativity, self-confidence and service to others.

Quality of Life Statement

At St. James we believe each student is created
uniquely by God and it is our desire to create
a community of acceptance.

Through deliberate instruction of core values including respect, honesty, responsibility, effort, cooperation, self-discipline, friendship, and perseverance, students will learn to apply these values throughout their daily lives.

Teachers, students and parents work together to encourage these values in our community.
